SpecialEurasia 2024: Our Year in Review

SpecialEurasia 2024: Our Year in Review

In 2024, SpecialEurasia broadened its activities, organised international visits, participated in global events, and published numerous reports. Focused on delivering actionable intelligence for decision-making, we refined our methodology by investing in modern technologies and adapting to geopolitical developments.

Our mission remains to predict or assess geopolitical risk, defined as the probability of political, economic, or social events influencing a region, and to support clients in understanding international affairs through diverse risk scenarios.

Throughout the year, SpecialEurasia released over 250 reports, reaching audiences in over 160 countries. The largest number of visitors came from the United States, Italy, Russia, India, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan. SpecialEurasia’s visibility in international media increased, with mentions in publications across multiple languages, including English, Russian, Arabic, and Persian.

Key Activities and Achievements

SpecialEurasia continued its flagship editorial and research projects, including:

Significant topics examined in 2024 included:

  • Events in Syria and their effects on Middle Eastern geopolitics.
  • The prolonged military confrontations involving Israel, Hamas, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
  • Escalation between Israel and Iran, alongside the influence of jihadist propaganda in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and the post-Soviet region.
  • Emerging jihadist threats in North Africa and the Sahel, where global powers are vying for influence.
  • Developments in Ukraine, including the role of volunteer battalions from the post-Soviet space and the arrest of an Islamic State supporter in Kyiv, which alarmed the international community. These findings complemented our publication Ukraine Conflict: Geopolitical Risk, Jihadist Propaganda, and Security in Europe.

International Engagement

International visits remained integral to our work. In 2024, key trips included:

  • Russia (March 2024): Observing the presidential elections and meeting with political and economic representatives to discuss the country’s foreign policy.
  • Morocco (April-May 2024): Attending the Sahara International Model United Nations (SIMUN) 2024 and visiting Western Sahara to examine the territorial dispute and regional modernisation efforts.
  • Armenia (June 2024): Engaging with local representatives to explore domestic and foreign policies. The visit coincided with protests led by the “Tavush for the Motherland” movement.
  • Italy (December 2024): Participating in the CSO 360 Global Congress in Rome, where global leaders in intelligence, security, and risk management convened.
