What You Will Gain

The course offers analysts a strategic advantage in understanding the complex geopolitical landscape of the post-Soviet region. Beyond analysing Russia’s domestic and foreign policies, this expertise enables analysts and professionals to understand the intricacies of the broader post-Soviet space, where the Russian language remains widely spoken. By navigating official sources and media agencies primarily conducted in Russian, analysts can acquire valuable insights into the political, economic, and social dynamics of these countries.

The prevalence of Russian speakers in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) further underscores the importance of the course. While precise figures vary, experts estimate that hundreds of millions of people in the CIS countries use Russian as their primary or secondary language.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Grasp key aspects of the Russian language.
  • Confidently navigate Russian online sources.
  • Locate specific Russian content such as news reports or documents.
  • Track individuals through their digital and social media presence.
  • Use various tools to manage translation and transliteration challenges.
